3 Hour Glucose Test & Result

The Test

The day that I have been dreading...the 3 hour test.  I got to the doctor's office nice and early with about 15 minutes to spare.  Once I got called into the lab, I had to drink another one of those sugary drinks.  This was nothing like the one that I had the first time at all!  This was double the sugar content and it was a little gross.  Before drinking the drink, they took my blood to see what my levels were before the sugar hit my system.  After finishing the drink, I began my wait.  After waiting about 20 minutes, I started to feel a little icky in the stomach from all that sugar.  My nurse told me that I better not get sick because I would have to start all over again.  So I did my best to keep from throwing it all back up with little sips of water.  After my first hour, the nurse drew my blood.  Since one of the doctors was out on vacation, I was able to use one of her rooms to rest.  My nurse set me up in the room so I can nap and she even provided a blanket!! Taking a nap definitely help with not thinking about getting sick.  After another hour passed, the nurse came into the room and took my blood again.  Then she did it again after another hour.  By that point, I've already been poked at 4 times!  My poor left arm didn't do so well...and it was a little bit achy.  I was able to go home after the 3rd hour.  The first thing I did was ate a banana and got lunch!
